Between tradition and modernity, press and more generally information is online today at a crossroad. How, at a time when information is virtualized, can we preserve and translate the legacy that comes from paper to screen? How to incorporate the rich media that make up our daily lives on the Web? Should we preserve this heritage and this story, or alternatively, get away and renew it? That’s what we invite you to discover in this conference.
After an introductory section describing the evolution of our access to information and its presence of the web, Benoit Drouillat and Olivier Marcellin will seek, through the study of various specific cases, the new practices for presenting information.
Whether it’s in the context of watching, composing or distributing the information, or how readers approach and interact with the displayed information, the way we consult and read the information are new variables that come into account in our consideration. Through a very interesting retrospective evolutionary presentation, you can now understand what were the legacies of the paper, the successes and failures of the integration of this support on the new digital media.
From this will come out best practices and concepts to be adopted to exploit the digital medium for communicating information, and a better understanding of the new trends and developments of tomorrow in terms of support and dissemination of information.

Pignier Nicole, Teacher-researcher at the University of Limoges, offers us a return on what makes our relationship with these interfaces and their success to the public. Tactile, sensory, intimate? How do we define our relationship to an interface? Find out during this conference.

Why is it more fun to use a touch screen than a keyboard?
The IT interfaces offer us different ways to access information.
In this process of contact and action, a pleasure of using and interacting takes place unconsciously, based on specific values. We say of an interface that it is intuitive, user friendly, but what exactly mean these values? Why do we search again and again to reach them? Are they universal, or do they depend on our cultural values or beliefs?

These are the questions that the conference of Pignier Nicole tries to provide possible answers. During this presentation, after a state of the art of the taking into account of the relationship user / object used throughout history, various examples of modern interfaces (mobile phones and smartphones, PDA , object communicating, video games, etc …) will be studied to understand the mechanisms that define our relationship of body and mind to the machine.

A carefully detailed methodology, based on research from leading researchers and authors in the field of user interaction and semiotics applied to IT that will be presented here to better understand where comes our pleasure to interact.

Nicole Pignier is professor at the University of Limoges where she teaches semiotic of communication strategies multimedia. She is in charge of the Professional degree Webdesign sensory. Researcher in the Center of Semiotic Researches at the University of Limoges, Nicole Pignier has published “Penser le webdesign, modèles sémiotiques pour les projets multimédias, Sociale expérience du Webdesign” in collaboration with Benoît Drouillat and “De l’expérience multimédia.

Economic models on the Internet are all shrubs in a forest of paradoxes: 30 billion dollars worth of advertising unevenly shared, 7 billion websites and some global, continental or local celebs, a very powerful lever for traditional economy and exploitation barriers “per se”, create value in a culture of free, disintermediation and new intermediates, a transition to experience that goes faster than thought (especially that of law), an ambiguous relationship from production to distribution and consumption, a truth of impermanence … all developing under a sky of “cloud” of increasingly heavy, huge energy consumer, storage, bandwidth, technology and other resources.

Focus on Jean Noel Portugal :
Jean-Noël Portugal created in 2004 the consulting firm Intuneo: missions and strategic studies for the media, digital content and the Internet. From 2007 to 2009, he was President of SAS HD3D, a consortium of post-production companies, special effects and 3D animation. In 2009, he co-founded the companies ADSOVO and Contextual Media Group: content analysis and contextual advertising on the Internet.

While portability and accessibility of rich media have become major web questions, the product offered bySuperDev and presented at the WIF Demo 2010 constitute one of the most promising solution for a rich web.

Company specializing in multimedia and 3D real-time applications development, SuperDev presented at the WIF Demos a solution to display real-time 3D in a web browser, without the need of any plugin or software installation.
As a demonstration of this technology, the latest version of their game, Virtual Ocean Race, an online multiplayer racing oceanic 3D real time simulator, whose originality is to be based on real weather data : it rains in the South Atlantic? As in the game!

This solution, particularly attractive at a time when demand is increasing for native support of rich content, has many advantages for the creation of web applications and games:
- compatibility between operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc …)
- hardware compatibility (Mac / PC, Smartphone)
- web browsers compatibility (Mozilla, Opera, Chrome, …)

This means concretely for users the possibility to use online softwares that no longer require to install or update plugins to access the rich content, and for businesses the opportunity to develop rich, complex, specific extremely accessible and compatible multimedia applications.
The technology allows viewing and interaction with 3D objects. For the video game industry, this is an opportunity to create real-time 3D game massively multiplayer web-users who benefit from this consistency and this portability.

A project carried out with the participation of the XLIM Research Institute jointly held by the University of Limoges and CNRS.

To learn more about SuperDev and test yourself this Web 3D:
