Every fortnight, wif team, in collaboration with the Pole Excellence e-Design, invites you to discover an interview of an interactive designer. This week, Sebastian : creative director from Germany.
wif : « Only one sentence to describe yourself… »
Sebastian : In graphics I trust.
wif : « You don’t just suddenly become a webdesigner. Tell me what led you to this world? »
Sebastian : At the time I was born my father was studying Applied Arts at the Academy of Breslau, Poland, therefore I got in touch with design and arts since my childhood. At the age of three I would already draw a lot of pictures and fascinated by my environment I would try to put down the world on a sheet of paper. I remember my first design attempts using a computer. I think it was in about 1989, I was a boy of 13 and I sat in front of my Amiga 500 pushing some pixels around in Deluxe Paint. I’ve always known that there would be no other occupation in my life than being a Designer, with or without a graduation. So I took the classical way, finished my graphic design studies in 2002 and went out into the big world of design craftwork.
wif : « Taking your experience into account, can try you to imagine and tell me what your job and works will look like in the 5 next years? »
Sebastian : The processing is getting ever faster. When I began working with computers in the early 90s, I was not aware about how much they would affect my everyday business.
Computers, machines, electronics and interactive design will play an increasing role in our life. Within the last few years Visual Communication Design has become popular in so many fields - this is a real challenge.
wif : « According to you, what media or what innovation has had the greatest impact lately? »
Sebastian : From my point of view the internet is the greatest innovation for the last 15 years. No other media has influenced our society like this.

wif : « On the opposite, what innovation has been the most useless, a complete “revolution disaster”? »
Sebastian : I don’t really know, but I think many web 2.0 ideas are just a waste of time.
